We refer to Circular issued by all International Group clubs on 7 October 2016 on new financial security requirements under MLC (MLC Certificates).
In order to simplify the process of applying for MLC Certificates all members will receive one Application together with the other renewal documents. The application form will contain the required information which members should check. Members will need to choose the period of validity, sign the Application and return it to Skuld. Skuld will then issue MLC Certificates.
Members may choose one of the following periods of validity for MLC Certificates:
- From 18 January 2017 until 20 February 2017; or
- From 18 January 2017 until 20 February 2018; or
- (for new members) From 20 February 2017 until 20 February 2018.
By returning the signed Application the member agrees to the undertakings contained in it as well as the terms of the MLC Extension Clause 2016. The issue of Certificates is conditional upon there being no outstanding premiums or other sums due to the Association.
MLC Certificates will be issued and sent in pdf format to the member. The member will then need to ensure that they are printed out and placed in a conspicuous place on board their vessels where they are available to seafarers before 18 January 2017. No further certificate (e.g. from States) will be required. However some flag states will require their owners to supply a copy of their Certificates.
Once MLC Certificates are issued they will be listed on Skuld's website in vessel search facility in the same way as blue cards. This will provide a reliable form of verification by flag state and port state authorities.
The form of MLC Certificates to be issued is available on our website.
The process for members and assureds insured with Skuld on non-mutual terms will be similar to the above but a separate Application form will be provided.
